Well, its a long time since I posted. Ha! It feels nice again, sitting behind the computer writing what you feel. On topic, this one's about motherjane's new single Jihad, OST for a malayalam movie directed by Amal Neerad called Anwar.

I was waiting for this one after I had seen the promos on the motherjane official site, and wondered if the song would be in Malayalam. :O I hadn't noticed the release dates, but knew that it would be out soon enough. A week later, my friends who were lucky enough to attend "An Ode to Life", (which I sadly missed) motherjane's first acoustic concert, here in Kochi, told me that they had played the song there, and that it was mindblowing. ":O" was my first reaction, and the first thing I did after getting home was to check the reverbnation page and listen to the song.

If I be honest and critical, I expected much more after Tribes of Babel. Tribes of Babel was a landmark for motherjane, and the riff had been stuck to my head for quite some time. Baiju chettan's fillings were just too good and that is one thing I missed in Jihad. I felt that the "Indian" touch was missing, but I think that is what was better, considering what this song was made for. His solo was nevertheless great.

Suraj stood out in this song like in no other song of their's. The first line he sings is good enough to make his presence felt. The lyrics are really, ermmm... well... *searches for a good word*.... apt, you could say. Really meaningful and relevant. Here they go:

Of all the reviews I read of this song, one line caught my attention the most. "Deepu and Clyde provide just the platform that Baiju needs to set the song ablaze." Nothing sounds more true. Deepu and Clyde were brilliant. The beats are sexy too, attracting most of the attention when there are no vocals and lead guitar. Overall, a brilliant song, which I hope will be aired in the local (malayalam) media. Can't wait.

Now I too believe in Jihad if love is the weapon.

Motherjane was in action at the Choice school grounds on the blessed 29th of this January. Mind blowing you'd say if you were there, even if you were a deaf guy pretending to listen that kind of music for the first time in your life!

Well, it all started when i saw the iLike update on facebook saying that Motherjane posted about a concert near me. Got the tickets in a couple of days and me and my friends Karthik, Sharath, Kayne and Jay were there around half an hour before the event started. On the way, my friend updated me about the venue, saying that the demand for the tickets had risen so much that jtpac, the original venue (with a seating capacity of around 700) was way too small for the crowd.

The guys got on soon after Mohanlal gave away a memento to a classical musician (ya, i don't know him, sorry about that :P). The guys just walked in at around 19:15 with their half-painted faces and before anybody knew anything, Baiju was warming up on the guitars with their new song (or so I believe - correct me if I'm wrong).

Suraj connected to the crowd really well, and sounded amazing throughout the two-hour concert. Explaining what each song meant, he also dedicated Mindstreet to a small girl called Savitri and another song to their drummer-friend Jimmy. Baiju played Vande Mataram solo in between and was the crowd's hero. John had a "chenda" attached to his Drum kit. Deepu was great, but the unsung hero, in my opinion was Clyde, who was mesmerising with his bass guitar. The crowd, full of 11th, and 12th standard students from schools all over the city, kept asking for more and had loads of fun that night. "Fields of Sound", "Maya" and "Chasing the Sun" were the sought-after songs.

The night ended with the usual "Jaya He, Jaya He, Jaya He part of the National anthem being played, and what a night it was.

Well, its about time I started putting my thoughts online (outside facebook), so here goes. Just to let you know if you're going to be a follower of my blog, I love :

Music : I mainly listen to Alternative and Metal songs even though my interest ranges from Carnatic to Thrash. My favourite bands include Metallica, Breaking Benjamin and Slipknot. My favourite Indian (classical) singer is Unnikrishnan and love Balabhaskar's violin exploits. :D

Sports: Football is the name of the game. Its hard to ignore cricket in a crazy country like India, so I like it watching that too, but only if somebody else is watching it. I play and watch Football, and I support United. :D

Books: No, I don't mean my school texts obviously. I love reading science fiction and thrillers, Micheal Crichton being my favourite author. :D

Ya, I'm the vocalist of a band called C 17 and we play pretty good music, I guess. Check out our first song, Dreams on Fire on youtube. :D
